Is it Real Damascus Steel?
A brief history of Damascus Steel: This is what we consider Damascus Steel today. "real" Ancient Damascus steel is a lost art.
The steel that was forged by the sword smiths of Ancient Damascus was a highly guarded secret, it cannot be perfectly replicated even today. The process was lost to the middle-eastern metal smiths around 1750 AD, possibly because sources of ores containing trace amounts of tungsten and/or vanadium needed for its production were depleted. So with the raw materials and recipes of the metal smiths' to make these items no longer available, it is unknown exactly how Damascus Steel was originally produced. Numerous attempts have been made to recreate the process with varying success, but the original process remains speculative at best.

I personally don't suggest treating this like a daily shaver as there are better options for shaving. I prefer to think of these as heirloom art pieces, and collectibles. I absolutely love them and collecting them but it is not my go to razor for shaving for multiple reasons. If you're looking for a shave ready straight razor please see our shave ready razors. These are heavy duty, the steel used in modern times is superior for shaving, the blade is longer than what I find comfortable to shave with. With all that said this is still my favorite razor blade by far that I own. If I shave with Damascus steel it is larger body parts not my face. If you have honing stones and a strop you can get these shave ready but they need more maintenance than modern blades to maintain the razor edge.
