WOW 1"+ 8/8 Vintage Wm. Gilchrist Wade and Butcher Bow Straight Razor horn scales

You're looking at a massive 8/8+ Chopper Straight razor. Gilchrist was great friends with Wade and Butcher and it is believed they helped produce some of his razors. You can see the W&B Bow on the tang. Gilchrist was an "American made" razor maker. Little known fact when Lincoln was assasinated he had a Gilchrist blade in his pocket.
but I digress...

You can have a custom 8/8" razor made for 500-1000 dollars but you'll have to preserve it for 170 years to have what this baby has to offer.
This blade was made between 1850 and 1860. As you can see...it's in Holy condition. to have all it's original width and original scales in excellent condition...man... this is an exceptional blade. Many would argue the Gilchrists were the finest blades ever made. I attached an original ad. They advertised 10 years without a hone. I did not put any work into this edge. When I find a truly ONE of a kind piece that is well beyond what most consider "one of a kind" I let the final owner decide what to do with it. If you want me to assure the edge is shave ready I can. I just don't want to remove any steel unless it's requested. I will say. After getting this one in the shop. I have not shaved with it...but prior to a stropping it was slicing through hairs on my arm with ease. So I'm almost certain it's as good as new.

There is one small circular spot on one side that can be seen in photos. Extremely minor cosmetic blemish but I needed to mention it. Scales are tight but that blade is HEAVY so gravity will turn it into a guillotine if you're careless. Solid pins, solid original horn scales. Steel spacer. Clearly this beat was built to last and last it has.

A high rehoming fee to make sure it goes to someone who knows what they have and continues caring for this near mint ancient piece of American History.
