No that's not rust. It's called Patina and I left it on for a reason. Normally I believe in restoring razors to their original splendor or improving on the factory look...however there are straight razor puritans who don't appreciate the "history" being erased from the antique. On this particular blade...I agree.
This is an extremely rare George Savage and Sons straight razor. They almost never show up any more. In fact this is the first I've seen. The first reason is because the blade is from 1842. That's almost 180 years at this point. A lot can go wrong over 180 years. Second, This company only stuck around for 2 or 3 years. I don't know the history of why that is. They are regarded as some of the finest blades ever made and I'm not just saying that.

You can see from these photos that edge would love to slice you in two.
It is extremely shave ready. :) To be honest...that one was sitting in my project pile for awhile. I just looked at it and noticed what it was. the tang impressions are poor but I made out the name. I'd love to take credit for the edge but I don't remember working on it. I might have and forgot. It looks like my work...maybe...who knows. I'm rambling.

If you're looking for a Savage & Sons...here's your shot....it might be your last. I don't know how to price it honestly. There's nothing to compare it to. I think 150 is reasonable. Anything less and I'd prefer put it in my museum of straight razors.

I highly RECOMMEND for any items that have STEEL components that you pick up a 5 dollar bottle of Beard Knife Razor lube. It lasts forever and costs next to nothing to protect your investment. I see guys dropping $200 dollars on a razor and then wondering why it develops rust when they leave it wet and don't take care of it. Stainless steel doesn't mean rust proof steel. Remember your blade can last HUNDREDS of years or a month. That's entirely up to you. Always...ALWAYS dry your razor after use. Get a stand so it can drip dry if nothing else and apply a little of this oil to your steel after use and you will not have to worry about rust. https://www.beardknife.com/listing/649137610/beardknife-straight-razor-steel-lube
Disclaimer. In order to bring you the best price on Brand New Dovo's it may take 2 weeks at the most to get this razor. If I have it in stock it will ship right away. If I have to order it from Dovo it usually takes 4-5 business days to get it. It ships from out of the USA to me. Once I get it I ship it same day priority mail so that takes another 2-3 days to reach you. If I have to carry stock on all the dovo's it ties up thousands of dollars on my end and I have to raise prices. So this gets you the best price on a brand New Dovo and I don't have to maintain thousands of dollars of stock on them. I have the razor in hand about 50% of the time. If you need the razor ASAP you can either contact me first to check my on hand stock or you can spend 20-75 more at other retailers.
